Auriculotherapy (commonly known as ear acupuncture) is the practice of treating the body by inserting needles into specific points on the auricle or outer ear. Dr. Paul Noiger, a French native, invented this treatment in the early 1950s. Noiger earned the title of being the father of auricular therapy for having developed a detailed map of ear acupuncture points that correspond to every structure of the human body. His findings concluded that the ear mimicked an upside down foetus, with the feet at the upper part and the earlobe resembling the head. By stimulating points on the ear with acupuncture needles, practitioners are able to trigger a natural healing process.
